Dog Skin Problems

Skin related problems are very common with most breeds of dogs and there are many reasons why these occur. 

Dogs in general are very susceptible to allergies and chronic allergies in dogs can cause a skin disease known as Atopy. A bacterial infection which occurs in a dog could also cause skin related problems such as hot spots and Pyodema.

In many instances dogs have allergies to certain foods and as a result could develop a skin disorder if given these.

Many dogs also develop a dermatitis which is acquired because of an allergy which they have to fleas. 

There is a genetic skin disease known as Canine Follicular Dysplasia which causes dogs to lose their hair often resulting in baldness or alopecia. 

A very common skin disease is Mange which is transmitted to the dog by mites. This is an infectious disease.

There are also various other endoctrine diseases which dogs can contract and these can often cause dog skin problems which can be characterized by alopecia or  bacterial infections. 

There is an ailment which can cause swellings on the dog’s skin which is very often  in close proximity to the dog’s elbow joint. This is known as Hygromas.
