The needles used in acupuncture for dogs are very small compared to other needles and your dog will feel no pain as long as its performed by a qualified dog acupuncturist. Dr. Royal says “I have found that dog acupuncture is often an effective alternative for many conditions….This happens to really be true for dogs that have multiple health problems, are older or maybe cannot have surgery or medications.

Feeding your dog a truly healthy dog food is tricky these days because of all the deceptive marketing practices major commercial dog food companies are using on us. Therefore, its entirely up to you to do a little bit of research to find out if the dog food you are feeding your canine is really healthy or just fast food disguised as healthy dog food.

Puppy training is important whether for good behavior or fun. During the process of teaching the puppy the fetch game, it is necessary that the treats are used alongside praise and there is a very good reason for this. The importance of praise hasn’t been firmly written on the chalkboard of your pup’s mind, so until it is, give your pup what is known to be a positive reward stimulus and that is food. You may be thinking, shouldn’t training always take place in the pup’s head and not their stomach and while this is true, they are learning a game.
Dog and puppy training can be made fun for both you and your pup. Try to get at least three fetching games of ten minutes each, into each day for three days in a row. The fetching drills should be included with a five or ten minute walk daily on the leash. What we will do is sneak in two commands during the puppy’s ‘game times’ and before it realizes what is going in, the puppy will have been taught to ‘come’ and ’sit’.
While in the middle of the retrieving games and the puppy has given you the play toy, put your left hand on the rear of the dog and your right hand under its chin. Press down gently with the left hand while administering small pressure upwards with your right as you say the command ’sit’.
Teaches Good Puppy Behavior
Immediately after the puppy has been placed in the sitting position, shower him with praise and toss out the toy once more. After the puppy brings back the toy, refrain from praise until the ’sit’ command has been given and it is placed in the sitting position. In the case where the puppy breaks from your grasp and you do not successfully get him seated, refrain from throwing the play toy, withhold praise and please do not give up entirely. This will begin the process of a well trained dog and hence good puppy behavior.
Utilize the leash to bring the puppy to you, say ’sit’ and put the puppy in the proper sitting position, ending each round of the fetch-sit game with a special treat.
By the time you finish your third session of fetch-sit games, you’ll notice that it really doesn’t take much left-hand pressure at all to get your puppy seated. You will have a walk on the leash for 10 minutes on the schedule for the days numbered four through seven. The entire routine will be the same as on the preceeding days and keep four tidbits with you. Make sure they are tucked away in your pocket, out of sight and scent, as you take the puppy outdoors.
After you begin with what the puppy believes to be a routine daily walk, take a tidbit out of your pocket, kneel down to its level and say its name, followed by the command “come”. Using the leash, carefully pull the puppy towards you. Give it the tidbit, and at the same time pour on the praise. By giving the tidbit with the praise, your puppy will begin to learn that praise is synonymous with the reward. These dog training and puppy training tips can be utilized in many areas of your training.

Of all the currently available types of training collars for dogs, electronic collars, also widely known as e-collars or shock collars, are the most recent to be introduced, as well as perhaps the most effective, as demonstrated by much scientific evidence. Each type of electronic collar has its own specific focus. The electronic no-bark training collar is one of these. Not surprisingly, this type of collar is used to discourage the dog from barking incessantly. This goal can be accomplished through the use of an electronic collar in a few different ways. When the dog barks, collars can respond with things like vibrations, ultrasonic noise, or different sprays like citronella, water, or lemon. A popular option for these among dog lovers is the Petsafe PDBC300 electronic bark control dog training collar
Alternatively, it can be used as negative reinforcement as well, meaning that the owner can activate the collar as a way to get the dog to perform a desired action. In other words, you have the option of using a remote training collar along with just about any kind of training. Some remote training collars offer certain special features. One feature of certain high-end remote training collars is the ability to control the level and duration of current applied. Some also have vibration or sound features which can further aid in communication. Also, they can easily be used in tandem with other training tools and methods in order to get the best possible results. When selecting one of these bear in mind that the deluxe comfortable electronic big and small dog training collar is one of the more popular selections.
The current isn’t sufficient to harm the dog – it simply gets his attention. The dog will learn to stay inside the boundaries, where the current isn’t produced. Electronic dog training collars for invisible fences are really easy to use, as their popularity suggests. At the same time, it’s always necessary to combine the introduction of the collar to the dog with the needed training, so that the dog will clearly understand the message associated with the collar. If you aren’t entirely sure as to how to go about this, it’s a good idea to consult with a professional trainer. This will ensure that you get the optimal results, ultimately including peace of mind, out of your invisible fence system. Be sure to consider the Innotek SD2000 in-ground electronic hidden dog fencing system when making your selection as it’s one of the more popular options.

It’s easy to spend money on our dogs for items they don’t truly need. After all, a little pampering never hurt. Unfortunately, while millions of owners purchase trinkets and luxuries for their canines, they often fail to invest the same attention into their dogs’ health. That can lead to large veterinarian bills later. Even worse, the thought of an expensive trip to the vet causes many owners to delay necessary treatment for their pooches.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the things you can do to maintain your canine companion’s health. By spending a little time and money upfront, you can avoid costly emergency bills in the future.
Inspect Your Dog Regularly
Canines deal with plenty of problems, including ear and eye infections, odd discharges, gum disease, and more. Making matters worse, being outside can result in fleas, scratches, and other issues. Invest the time to give your pooch a check-up once a week. That includes brushing his teeth, checking his eyes and ears, and even smelling his breath. Otherwise, the small problem can fester into a larger problem relatively quickly.
Begin Training Classes for Your Dog
Obedience training will result in a more friendly experience with your pets, but could also save you money on otherwise accidental emergency bills. A trained canine is less likely to dart from you into traffic while you’re walking him. Also, training will prevent his snapping or biting a stranger or another pet.
Don’t Neglect Spaying Or Neutering
Responsible dog owners will spay or neuter your dog unless their goal is to professionally breed. Spaying and neutering has substantial health benefits, beside the birth control effects. In female canines, there is a much lower chance of developing breast cancer. And the likelihood of developing cancer in the ovaries or uterus is eliminated. For males, the procedure significantly lowers the likelihood of developing testicular cancer.
Set Aside An Emergency Fund
Sometimes, emergencies are unavoidable. You can provide the best care possible for your dog and still end up worried in the veterinarian’s waiting room. Set aside money before a medical emergency happens. That way, you’ll have the funds to make sure your pooch receives the treatment he needs.
Too often, owners make the tragic decision of sacrificing their canines’ health because they are unable to afford the required treatment. Avoid that situation entirely by creating an emergency fund for your dog.
One last note: make an appointment with the veterinarian to give your pooch a routine check-up every six months. Even if you’re inspecting his coat, eyes, ears, and teeth once a week at home, problems can escape your notice. Plus, your canine may be coping with an internal issue. The veterinarian can perform an examination that uncovers medical problems before they become serious. Treating them early can prevent emergencies later.
A little preventative care – and a lot of love – can keep your dog healthy and happy while preserving your bank account.
